Why we’re recruiting:

The Membership Committee of the Ryan White Title I Planning Council is responsible for maintaining a Planning Council membership that is driven by people living with HIV, ‘mirrors’ the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and contains the expertise needed to make informed planning decisions.

The Membership Committee has noted that at the present time the Council is in particular need of representation from Fairfield County and thus is recruiting individuals from this area in order to maintain a Council that reflects the epidemic.

The Membership Committee is also seeking members who meet the following recruitment priorities:

bullet

Live or work in Fairfield County

bullet

Are HIV+ and do not work for an agency that gets Title I funding

bullet

 Are African American or Hispanic

bullet

Are between the ages of 20 and 44

Note:  You can still apply for membership even if you do not fit these specific categories.

Please help us find new members!

bullet

Think of people who fit our target criteria and who could make a positive contribution to the Planning Council (colleagues, clients, friends).

bullet

Give them the attached information about the Planning Council and what it means to be a member.

bullet

Encourage them to call (203) 772-2050 x20 or email lehrman@hwfco.com for more information or to request an application form!

 WHAT is the Planning Council?

The New Haven and Fairfield Counties Ryan White Title I Planning Council is a council of individuals that plan HIV/AIDS services for the two-county region.  The Planning Council makes decisions about federal money provided through the Ryan White CARE Act.  This money pays for care and services for people living with HIV and AIDS.

WHAT does the Planning Council do?

 The Planning Council:

bullet

Studies the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in the area

bullet

Obtains community input to determine what these needs are

bullet

Decides what kind of care and services are most important for people living with HIV/AIDS in the area

bullet

Divides up federal Title I money among these important services

bullet

Puts best effort into making decisions that best serve everyone living with HIV/AIDS in the area

WHAT does the Planning Council NOT do?

 The Planning Council does not:

bullet

Decide which agencies get funds to provide HIV/AIDS services.

bullet

Conduct HIV Prevention (clearly, it’s important but is not the Planning Council’s job).

bullet

Provide actual services for people living with HIV/AIDS – Instead, the Council does the planning for the services.

WHAT kind of services do Title I funds support?

The Planning Council allocates Title I money to the following types of services (among others):

bullet

 Primary medical care

bullet

Drug reimbursement

bullet

Dental care

bullet

Mental health care

bullet

Substance abuse services

bullet

Alternative Therapies

bullet
